All closed tourist paths are marked on signs right in the terrain. When hiking, follow the placement of the signs. Depending on snow conditions, the range of closed paths may be adjusted.
During snow times, no tourist paths without rod signs above the tree line are considered marked.

During winter, some of Tatras paths are closed due to the following reasons:
-
seasonal close offs- mostly paths from one valley to another (over mountain passes)-those with valid climbing card (JAMES, CHS, ...) may pass these, but only for reasons of a peak climb and must follow the climbing trail at all times.
-
other impending danger (avalanches, ...) - these close offs may only be crossed by the members of Tatran Mountain Rescue, TANAP (Tatran National Park) guards, forest guards and Nature Conservation guards.
-
nature and environment protection close offs - these close offs may only be crossed by the members of Tatran Mountain Rescue, TANAP guards, forest guards and Nature Conservation guards.
-
Direct instructions of members of Tatran Mountain Rescue, TANAP guards, forest guards and Nature Conservation guards are obligatory for all visitors.
- transgression- fine
- harming nature - crime - passed over to the prosecution of Slovakian Republic
We recommend asking for information from Mountain Rescue regarding the paths status before any journey.
